Reading through the Find horn foundation website i found myself extremely interested in this seemingly abstract place. In terms of it’s remote location along the hardy north east coast of Scotland it didn’t seem like the typical location for a hippy hangout! Having heard stories from a few friends i was interested,  It’s mission statement read:

After calling Alessandro we made a plan and decide to head for the village and take a look…….

After a 600 Km Drive from Liverpool and a short break in Aviemore, We finally arrived at our destination. Surrounded by the ocean on both sides this Quaint Village and Eco community Co-Exist in harmony with all the amazing wildlife and the beautiful natural environment the area is covered with.

From the vast sand dune network along the coastline to the tidal estuary within Find horn bay. The area provides a pristine natural habitat for both animals and humans alike!

According to the locals the area is known to be extremely mild in terms of its climate and from what we where told it is often very clear due to the communities close proximity to the ocean on both sides.

In terms of the residents, It’s safe to say that there is a mixed bag of people both young and old. Some have been living in the community since it started and others are simply passing through hoping to learn a thing or two.

The Focus is on peace and sustainability and the result is a zen like approach to eco living with a modern twist, Yes there are Grass Roofed, Earth based structures but there are also some incredibly advanced houses which are at the cutting edge of eco building. These caught my attention, with all the amenities offered through a normal western home and a fraction of the environmental impact, these structures to me are a beacon of hope for the future!
