Protect Portugal from Forest Fires

A little back story…

During the summer of 2017 a devastating wildfire erupted across central Portugal, destroying over 100,000 acres of woodland in just a few days.

In 2019 we began working with a community of projects in Central Portugal to restore their valleys, planting over 25,000 native trees. Along with the support of organisations such as One Tree Planted, Geota and the Arbor Day Foundation, we have been able to deliver over 100,000 trees to areas all over Portugal.

What now?

The experiment worked!

With the support of local businesses and organisations, we have so far donated hundreds of thousands of trees to the region since 2019.

These trees are funded directly by
the GW community and investors based in Portugal.

There is still a lot of work to be done however before the region can begin to replace the woodland lost during the 2017 wildfires. These fires continue to be a recurring problem all across Portugal.

We want to continue to repeat this initiative again with an even larger network and a much larger volume of trees…
But for this we need your help!

We can only do this with your help!

Marika – Chief of Operations

“I always wanted to have a job that was a little bit different than a normal office job and work somewhere that had a positive effect on the environment and within the community. When I joined in 2019 I really liked the fact that they wanted to be a community owned company, so that everyone who wants to participate can easily get involved.”

Our Testimonial

Portugal is a country that is truly suffering from desertification, deforestation and invasive species, so our initiative involves a huge network of projects and a large volume of trees. We are physically delivering the trees for free while organising the entire operation ourselves

Gone West is trying to support the local communities in Portugal because we truly believe it is important to give people job opportunities while creating social and environmental value. And more importantly, we have proven that it works!
